Very rare and original, ca1890’s Pair of Native American Metis / Cree Indian Embroidered Hide Gauntlets / Gloves. This outstanding Pair of Great Lakes Hide Gauntlets each measures approx. 9" long overall and 5 5/8" wide at the opening of the extended cuff. The decoration features a simple yet beautiful stylized Floral design as can be seen in the scans below. These wonderful Metis/Cree Indian Gauntlets are thread sewn and made of a soft, smoke tanned hide. They feature applied cuffs with a green trade cloth edge and are lined with a red wool, trade cloth.
The Gauntlets offered here are unconditionally guaranteed original and of the period. They are NOT reproductions or modern recreations but original Metis/Cree Gauntlets crafted in the third quarter of the 19th century. This very rare and very beautiful, Pair of 1890’s Metis/Cree Embroidery Decorated Gauntlets are in very good condition. The embroidered decoration is beautiful and very well preserved with no loss or damage. All elements of the Gauntlets are original and there has been no repairs or restorations - they are 100% original and 100% beautiful.
