    Description

Presented is a fabulous silver repousse box. This piece dates to 1975, and was likely made in continental Europe, possibly Turkey. The box has a beautifully chased floral design, done in high relief against a finely stippled background. The interior has a wood lining. The underside of the box has an inscription reading "To Admiral S. Turner / as a token of our friendship and / my visit to Naples. November 11th 1975 / Esref Akinci / General / Commander TLF." General Esref Akinci was commander of the Turkish Land Forces from 1973-1976. Admiral Stansfield M. Turner has served as both President of the U.S. Naval War College and Director of the C.I.A.
This piece is in great condition. The hinge is in great shape and the lid closes well. The details of the repousse design are nice and crisp. There are no splits, no breaks, no dents, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
The underside of the box is stamped with a purity stamp of 900 for coin purity silver, and a maker's mark that looks like BT.
The box measures about 6 1/2 by 5 by 3 1/2 inches, LxWxH.
The box weighs 593 grams or 20.9 regular ounces. Although there is a wood lining in the box, the vase majority of the weight is in the silver, considering the light weight of the wood.
