Description

This listing is for an antique, hand blown, glass fly catcher with cork stopper and wire hanger.  This was obtained in an estate sale and has a note included in the center of the glass that says:
"AN ANTIQUE GLASS FLY CATCHER...That is what this is!  Much prettier than the later sticky fly paper!  It is easy to see the many bubbles in this hand blown glass...A bit of sugar water would have been put in this clear glass and then it was hung up with a length of wire to catch the flies - and the light sparkling from the fire.  These were probably made in the late 1800's.  We first saw these in use at the restored Colonial Settlement on Blennerhassett Island, W. VA.  Later in our travels, we were able to purchase several which are of this same vintage.  Just recently on the BBC they were featured on a program about British antiques and collectibles.  This piece of Americana glass would look very attractive sitting in the window catching the sunbeams.  It is in its original condition with no chips or cracks, just some extra dirt from 100 or so years of hanging around.  (Flies not included - attract your own!)"
The glass is about 6 inches high and 4.5 inches wide.  Please refer to pictures for best description.  If you have any questions before purchase, please email us.  Thanks for looking!
