    Description

Antique 19th century Qing Chinese embroidered skirt made from red jacquard silk. The skirt is decorated with panels of forbidden stitch embroidery that were appliqued onto the cream colored silk background. The appliqued embroidery is embellished with gold colored metal threads using a couching technique. The embroidered panels through the skirt depict peacocks, frogs sitting on pots, butterflies and flowers.
    Condition:
This skirt is in good condition overall with some flaws to note.
-Some color variation (fading?) to the red silk, some areas have a molted orange-red appearance as can be seen in the pictures.
-Marks and stains on the cream colored cotton waist band, one hole in the middle of the waist band. See pictures.
-A few loose stitches here and there but nothing significant.
-The waistband is tagged and numbered. I suspect it was in a museum's collection at some point before deaccession.
Total waist band length: 44 inches
    Skirt length: 39.5 inches
