My Mom had this awesome giant clam shell in her house, and I found it during her recent move. This one is a huge example, and I was impressed. It's about 9 x 6 inches across and about 3 inches thick. It weighs almost 2 pounds, huge. It took me a little while to figure out the species, but it looks to be a
Hippopus hippopus
, also known as the
Horse Hoof clam
and
Strawberry clam
. It's a species of giant clam, from the South Pacific to the Indian ocean. I think example is in great shape, and would be awesome in your collection.
