Description
This is an exquisite pair of vintage, Chinese seat/stool covers. Made of woven, red wool(?) with multiple colors and multiple stitches of vivid embroidery, each piece is fully lined in a very fine, gauzy linen. There is a tonal-blue lotus in each corner and a center medallion featuring dramatic imagery of a crane holding a branch in its beak, all surrounded by swirling chinoiserie motifs in metallic bullion embroidery. They are in good vintage condition with minimal wear that is consistent with their age, use, and storage; there are a few nips to the fabric along the side panels/bands that are not very noticeable (pictured). Some of the decorative stitching has minor pulling and there is consistent oxidation to the metallic embroidery work (pictured). The linen lining has visible staining but that does nothing to detract from the beauty or function of either textile. They are very sturdy and display beautifully. They are perfect for their intended use but could also function as antimacassars, table scarves for end tables, or decorative pillows (if backed). Each piece measures approximately 19.5”Hx18.5”W with a 0.75” band around the perimeter.
