    Antique American Indian Woven Cotton Vest w Embroidered Symbols Coyote, Birds, God.
    Offered today is this antique or vintage American Indian traditional costume/vest.
    This vest is white woven cotton and has symbols embroidered in dark blue (with some red for eyes) on the back and front.
    This vest has an open front, no sleeves and 4” of fringe along the bottom. It is 25” long and 21” across the shoulders.
    Snowflakes decorate the front and birds, including what may be Phoenix or Eagles, plants and some kind of dog, probably coyote decorate the back.
    Some of the birds and dog have red eyes. Birds are a symbol for freedom or victory, the coyote can be a symbol for God or ancestor and there is also a somewhat round shape with another round shape inside that may be the eye of higher power.
    I am not an expert on native dress or costumes so please use your best judgment about the above information.
    This comes to you from the estate of a prolific textile collector and professor of South American culture.
    The vest shows wear with some pulling of edge stitches and storage damage at the shoulder and other more slight places. The embroidery is in good to excellent condition.
